Calcium folinate, chemical name is N-[4-[(2-amino-5-formyl-4-oxo-1,6,7,8-tetrahydro-6-pteridyl)methyl]amino] Benzoyl-L-glutamic acid calcium salt, off-white to slightly yellow crystalline or amorphous powder; odorless. Dissolved in water, almost insoluble in ethanol or ether; dissolved in 0.1mol/L sodium hydroxide solution. It is a derivative of folic acid, a vitamin required for DNA synthesis, DNA repair and DNA methylation, and it also acts as a cofactor in biological reactions involving folic acid. It has been shown to be partially effective in treating children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
